This course is designed to provide the student with a detailed analysis of the books of the Old Testament. The student will become acquainted with the authorship, date, contents, outline, purpose, theme(s) and ten basic genres in the various Old Testament books. In addition, the student will formulate hermeneutical guidelines for interpreting the ten significant genres.

This course continues Elementary Greek I and finishes first year Greek grammar. Toward the end of the semester, 1 John and/or other passages will be read from the Greek New Testament. (Prerequisite NTBL 531).
A study of the essential elements of biblical Hebrew grammar. The intent of this course is to focus on the basic principles of Hebrew phonology, morphology, syntax, and vocabulary. Students must complete OTBL631 with at least a C.

In this course, the student applies sound exegetical method to assigned Hebrew passages to find the author’s intended meaning and its theological and practical significance. The method includes research into the historical, cultural, and literary background of each passage, as well as lexical, grammatical, and syntactical analysis.
